Here I Am...

This project is an exploration of my own Identity. I realized that there are so many aspects contributing to my identity. Some are characteristics that I was simply born with like my family heritage and physical attributes. My brown curly hair is obviously a part of who I am. There are also external elements which help form my identity. My nationality, culture, upbringing, even the consequences of a devastating hurricane are pivotal components. Many of these external influences inherently become an integral part of who I am as a whole.

The color accentuates the internal and external influences or the subtle differences of the two indicating how external influences inevitably seep into your internal existence.

The panels are of transparent material, each hung apart from one another other. The display of the panels emphasizes the idea that identity is comprised of many layers and each aspect of a person’s identity may be interpreted separately, in any combination or in its entirety.

In a nutshell, this art piece is a physical representation of the multiple layers of my identity. See me as you will.

Debbie! These are beautiful! How incredible to see your whole process from beginning to end (from the art vs. design debate) and to see where you ended up! I love this project! I wish I could have seen it in person or you in person! Besos!
