Jorge Rodriguez Gerada www.artjammer.com
A Cuban American artist, living in Barcelona for the past 10 years.
Once upon a time he ruled the world of Culture Jamming in New York City. Now his form of expression is much more intimate. He hand picks an every day person in an ordinary neighborhood and celebrates their spirit in an extraordinary way. He draws their portrait on building walls in the surprising medium of charcoal.
The sheer size of it and the perfectly detailed drawing is incredible. However, to me, the significance of his work is that it is ephemeral. The true beauty comes from seeing the portrait fade away over weeks or months. Or in some cases, the construction of the next door building begins to cover what was once a chin and then the forehead. What is left is what we experienced. Here is an article eloquently describing his work: http://www.nyartsmagazine.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=134177&Itemid=721
